Victim number five was found behind a Goth club in San Francisco's SOMA district. Like the previous victims, he was young, nude, and completely drained of blood.
According to the information I had received from Erik, there were two distinct bite marks on the man's body. This information made us aware that there were two vampires working together in tandem.
The murders were too close to home; I had to think of the welfare of all of those who served me, as well as my donors. I ordered everyone to stay on the property until further notice.
I had called Daniel earlier, and briefly told him that he needed to leave his apartment for a few days. I sent Carlo to pick him up.
I was in the kitchen having my customary mint tea when they walked in.
"Daniel, I apologize for the sudden intrusion, however you are here for your own protection" I said. "May I offer you some refreshment?"
"No thank you, Isis" he repiled. He was still confused as to why he was so abruptly pulled from the familiar confines of his apartment. "What's going on?" he asked.
I asked him if he was familiar with the recent serial murders that the media referred to as The Blood Killings. He was aware of the news, of course.
"Well Daniel, it is my belief and understanding that two rogue vampires are committing the crimes. I want to make sure that you are safe. I and a few others plan on putting an end to this mess."
"Right" quipped Carlo. "These assholes are messing with the balance of things. They know damn well that you don't have to drain a person dry to feed well."
At that moment, Robert and David joined us in the kitchen.
"That's right" added Robert. "No one likes people fucking with their paper...um, pardon my French."
"What?" said Daniel, at a total loss.
"Paper, man" replied Robert. "Rich people - whether they are vampires or not - don't like their business messed with."
Carlo laughed. "That's so true, Robert. It took a lot of time, planning, and wise investments to be where we are now. Bringing unwanted attention to any of us will be molto male."
David looked at Daniel and spoke up. "So, is this guy sitting here another 'pet'?"
I could see Daniel's face turn red. The dear man -he was so sensitive and shy at times.
'Yes - he is another 'pet', David. Do you have a problem with it?" I asked testily.
The kitchen was so quiet that I could hear everyone's heartbeat. David stammered "Um, no. No problem. I'm cool." It was his turn to turn red in the face. Robert chuckled under his breath; Carlo had a bemused look on his face.
"All right, then" I finally said. "You are all to remain here on the property. As a matter-of-fact, by tomorrow night, none of you are to leave this house. That means that you will have to keep the horse locked in the stable, David. Make sure that he has everything that he will need."
We sat around the kitchen table eating Anna's superb home-made pesto pizza, with a few bottles of Pinot Grigio. Anna later took Daniel to his new temporary room, and helped him quickly learn his way about. I received a call from Ankh-Re.
"Getting everything under control?' he asked.
"Yes" I replied. Unlike me, he had no household to consider.
'Cool" he said. "I'll be there tomorrow afternoon." He sounded very serious. In an ominous tone he said "Let's do this shit" then hung up.
